Remove a domain
Removing a domain stops Velumi from managing its DNS. Open Domains, click the domain, then Remove domain. You'll be asked to type the domain name to confirm.
Any environments still serving a hostname from this domain will stop resolving once the domain's DNS is removed and DNS caches expire. Detach those hostnames first, or be ready to point the domain elsewhere.
Only organization Owners and Admins can remove a domain.
What happens
- Velumi stops being the authoritative DNS provider for the domain.
- The DNS zone is held for a grace period before permanent deletion, so an accidental removal can be recovered by contacting support during that window.
- To fully move the domain away, change its nameservers at your registrar to your new DNS provider.
Moving a domain to another provider
If you're migrating away rather than just cleaning up:
- Set up the domain at the new DNS provider and recreate your records there.
- Change the nameservers at your registrar to the new provider's.
- Once propagation completes and traffic is served correctly, remove the domain from Velumi.
Doing it in this order avoids any downtime.
