Proration and mid-cycle charges
When you change what you pay for partway through a billing period, Velumi prorates the difference — you're only charged for the time you actually use a plan. Proration applies when you:
- Add a new project to an organization that already has a paid subscription
- Upgrade a project to a higher plan
- Downgrade a project to a lower plan
The prorated amount is calculated from the days remaining in the current billing period.
When you're charged: next invoice vs. immediately
Velumi uses a threshold to decide how a prorated charge is collected:
- Below the threshold — the prorated amount is added to your next invoice as a line item. Nothing is charged to your card right away. This keeps small adjustments from creating extra invoices.
- At or above the threshold — the prorated amount is charged to your payment method immediately, and you receive an email receipt. This prevents a large unpaid balance from building up before your next billing date.
Threshold by currency
Your organization's billing currency determines the threshold. The amounts are fixed per currency — they are not live-converted.
| Currency | Threshold |
|---|---|
| EUR | €100 |
| USD | $115 |
| SEK | 1100 kr |
| DKK | 750 kr |
| NOK | 1100 kr |
| GBP | £85 |
| CHF | 90 CHF |
| PLN | 425 zł |
Examples
Small upgrade (below threshold). You're on Launch (€9/mo) and upgrade to Grow (€49/mo) halfway through the month. The net prorated difference — roughly €20 — is added to your next invoice. No immediate charge.
Adding a project late in the period (below threshold). You add a Grow project with a few days left in the cycle. The small prorated amount appears on your next invoice.
Large change (at or above threshold). A prorated amount of €120 is due immediately. Velumi charges your payment method and emails you a receipt, rather than letting it accumulate to your next invoice.
Where to see prorated amounts
Before you confirm a plan change in the dashboard, a summary shows the prorated amount and whether it will be charged now or added to your next invoice. Accumulated prorations are also shown on the Invoices page under your upcoming invoice.
Invoice customers
Organizations billed by invoice (bank transfer) rather than card don't use the immediate-charge threshold — there's no card on file to charge. All prorations are deferred to the next scheduled invoice.
